Windy City Winds Backstage Peek.

I’ve been video recording Windy City Winds concerts at St. Paul’s UCC near Fullerton and Halsted twice a year for about 10 years. Originally I was stationed in the balcony and had a second static camera on the stage, afterwards I edited the two shots to create the final video.

For the past four years or so we have been using the church’s livestream setup to record the concerts with me manning an additional camera from a position just off stage right. This location gives me an opportunity to get a frontal view of the conductor as well as more intimate close-up shots of most of the orchestra.

In addition to me we have a director supervising the live stream and choosing which shots to broadcast. He is assisted by a musical director who alerts him to what sections of the orchestra are being featured as the concert progresses. This gives him information he needs to set-up what camera he wants to pick next. We also have a dedicated audio technical director who monitors the levels, the mix and manages the microphone placements etc.

At the beginning of the March 2025 concert I decided to do an impromptu Facebook Live video before the concert which resulted in about 6 or more people tuning into the concert live.

There are so many ways to interject video into your marketing and promotional efforts. So be sure to keep them on your radar and use video to share your business and organization events when it is appropriate. If you can’t do it all yourself reach out for help.
