If you are a public speaker or presenter this is an example of how we can take a few excerpts from your live presentation together with your PowerPoint slides (if applicable) and combine it with a prepared voice over to create a nice promotional video production that will provide meeting planners and other potential prospects with an idea of the material you will cover as well as a taste of your presentation style. A video like any of these is a must have for every professional public speaker.

In the sample below the speaker provided us with a few clips and his biographical information to produce this promotional video.
In this sample we used excerpts from a keynote address to sample the speaker’s message.
This is a video for an actual real live workshop of mine. But it is also a sample of text only video with a voice-over. You will be able to guess pretty quick what I am explaining if you just look at a few seconds of the video. This kind of video production uses — you guessed it –text only — no graphics — no pictures — just text, only.
Some reasons to use this style of video is firstly rapid production. These are pretty quick to do compared to other kinds of video but not necessarily easy. There are a few steps involved and may be more involved than some of you might want to do on your own. But I’ll explain that next. Another reason to do a video that only uses text is to re-purpose articles or other written material into a video product in order to make that content available on video platforms like youtube or to make it available to people who prefer to consume their information via video.
Also they are oddly compelling because the viewer is actively engaged on the process. It is less passive than a typical video. It is not for every purpose but it is fairly ideal when you are faced with putting a lot of text on a web page where you risk having your visitors simply skim the material when you really need them to read it all and understand the content being presented. When you add the voice over it is even easier to consume because you can listen while you read along.
Now some people don’t like this kind of video because they prefer to read at their own pace or skim the material. But many people including me are both visual and auditory learners and for us the reinforcement of reading and listening is a win-win situation for better comprehension of the information on the first pass.
Traditional video with colorful graphics and visuals that aid comprehension is also good, but it can be a little more costly to produce, takes a little more planning and typically requires that you look “ready for company” if you plan to appear on camera.
To make a text only video you will need to have your script typed up in Word. Next you will need to format it so that it can be exported to PowerPoint with just a sentence or two per slide. This is a bit time consuming but easier once you know how to do it. Then you export each slide as individual jpgs and finally assemble them as a video using your favorite video editing software. This is where you can also add the the voice over that you have pre-recorded and any music or sound effects you want to include.

Musical pedagogue Dr. James Lyke, Professor Emeritus, University of Illinois talks about his collection of piano arrangements based on the songs of Irving Berlin. The collection “Play it With Music” is published by Lee Roberts Music Publications and is distributed through Hal Leonard Music. We produced this somewhat impromptu video onsite LIVE at the 2015 MTNA Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Dr. Lyke’s description of the pieces is accompanied on the piano by his co-arranger and collaborator Geoffrey Haydon.
This is a good example of how to take advantage of the resources at a trade show or conference to promote your products. It is often a perfect time when all of the knowledgeable stakeholders are available in one place and the venue offers an active and energetic backdrop for your production.

This is a short promo we produced showing excerpts from a Workers Health & Safety Conference we videotaped in Connecticut. The conference was presented as four one-and-a-half-hour sessions over two days to a group of construction industry delegates from China and involved a translator. We recorded each session then added the PowerPoint slides in post production. The final version was delivered a few weeks later to the seminar attendees and other stakeholders as a DVD set to serve as a review and to share the content with their staff. In this promo I took the animated intro we produced and used it as a background, superimposing excerpts from the conference as a picture-in-picture on top.

This is an excerpt from a two day event for and about people who are hearing impaired. It was a two camera shoot. In post-production we combined a visual of the speaker as well as the person who was transliterating for those who could not hear. In addition we laid in a caption track as well as PowerPoint slides as needed. The final edited product was distributed as a set of DVDs. We also designed and executed the cover art, managed the duplication and delivered a finished packaged product to the client. This was 12 hours of video in a 6 DVD Set.
